NOW PLAYING: HBOT Treatment Details

DR. ADAM BREINER: Patient lies in a clear chamber that's filled with 100 percent oxygen, and is pressurized to a depth that is specific for the condition that we're trying to treat them for. And the sensation's very much like going up and down an airplane, you feel pressure in the ears that you're going to have to clear by either yawning or holding your nose and blowing; so, very similar type of experience in that sense. Again, the chamber's clear, so you can see the technician or a family member and they're able to communicate with you, and you with them. And you can lay and watch a movie, listen to music, or just sleep during that time. So it's actually a very pleasant experience. And typically 60 to 90 minutes is the length of the treatment.

We've seen many types of patients using the hyperbaric oxygen therapy, people with strokes, traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy, MS, autism, Lyme disease, just to name a few. Oxygen is so universal in its use and need throughout the body, that's why every condition can benefit from hyperbaric oxygen.

The amount of sessions someone needs is very individualized, but typically we say you need a minimum of at least 20 to 40 sessions. And these need to be consecutive, because it is the consecutive exposure to the oxygen that causes the physiological changes. So, people should at least have one treatment a day, sometimes you can have up to two treatments a day, five days a week. And again, the amount of sessions you're going to need total, that's very individualized and it could a minimum of 40, but it could be more.
